🍽️ Issue #45: Leave the Always-On Apocalypse on Shore

Happy Father's Day to every dad in the Tribe.

You showed up. You carried the load. Today, take a knee.

Here's a hard truth for the dad stuck in a rut: the rut is comfortable. It asks nothing of you. One of my mentors used to say “A rut is just a casket with no ends.” That's exactly why it's dangerous.

Set Your Table was built for that dad. It hands you a way to see where you are, name where you could be, & close the Freedom Gap between them.

Today I'm handing you one tool from the kit. SOLITUDE.

Solitude is my favorite way to drop the armor. When I'm alone, the performance stops. No rank. No role. No audience. Just a man & his thoughts, finally quiet enough to hear them.

I'm not the only one who swears by it. Mike Erwin built an entire leadership philosophy around solitude. Ryan Holiday calls stillness the key. The research backs them: time alone sharpens thinking, steadies emotion, & restores the clarity a noisy life strips away.

Here's your assignment. Design one or two hours a week of real solitude. Put it on the calendar like it's a mission. Protect it like one.

No phone. No feed. No always-on apocalypse.

My version is the paddleboard. I leave the always-on apocalypse on shore, push off, & let the water do the rest. You'll find yours. A trail. A garage. A pre-dawn drive with the radio off.

Try it for one week. Report back.

PS: I logged my first Barnes & Noble sales this week. HELL YEAH. The table keeps getting bigger. Thank you for pulling up a chair.

Stay in the Stay in the fight. Set your table. ~ Brian

Brian Cook June 29th 🍽️ Issue #46: What I couldn't control on Saturday, & the 1 thing I could. Ali set a copy of my book in front of me Saturday & told me her father & I had been cadets together at West Point. He was class of '93, three years behind me; our years in the Corps overlapped, & we came up under the same gray walls. More than three decades since then. Now his daughter stood in front of me at Sea Shelves in Port Aransas, holding something I wrote, asking me to sign it. I signed it...

Brian Cook June 15th 🍽️ Issue #44: The Ripple Starts Thursday Think about the person who changed your life. Chances are they didn’t just impact you. They changed how you show up for everyone around you. That’s the ripple: your influence on one person becomes their influence on many. I learned this lesson the hard way, leading troops. West Point drills it into you on day one & every leadership course after: your people do what you DO, not what you say. Soldiers detect authenticity from a mile...

Brian Cook June 1st 🍽️ Issue #43: Every copy. Signed by hand. ✍️ Friends - This weekend I did something I have waited a long time to do. I sat down at my table & signed every preorder copy of Set Your Table. Not a stack. Not a sample. EVERY ONE. Each book got my hand on it. Each one got packed, boxed & carried to the mail…every one of them is or will be on its way to YOU by lunch 📦 I will not lie to you: it was a feeling I will not soon forget. For two years this book lived in my head, on my...
